Our Mission
We gather community to create Lake-facing culture through participatory art. We demonstrate love and grief for our dying ecosystem. We infuse the movement to save Great Salt Lake with joy, creativity, and care.
The life of Great Salt Lake is inseparable from our own.
We gather to bear witness. We gather to grieve. We gather to create the futures that we want to live in. We gather to increase our love for brine shrimp, microbialites, and one another. We gather to carry each other through spells of despair. We gather to praise all that is vital and alive.
Even as the impending collapse of our ecosystem challenges our relationship with hope, we devote ourselves to a future shaped by care, solidarity, and reverence. Everything we do matters. In the face of this crisis, who will we become?
Our Values
1. Creative Resistance: We facilitate demonstrations to make love and grief visible through art, poetry, song, and dance.
2. Caring through Collapse: We open our hearts to the Lake and to our neighbors who are on the frontlines of this crisis, both human and beyond-human. We commit to taking care of each other through collapse.
3. Presence: We bear witness through calm, steady attention. We practice deep listening with the Lake and with each other.
4. Rematriation: We center and follow Indigenous leadership in our movement community. We reckon with the ongoing harms of settler colonialism and stand in solidarity with Indigenous water defenders. We listen to and learn from the Ute, Shoshone, Goshute, and Paiute Peoples who have always been stewards of this place. We uplift Shoshone-Goshute place-names in our art & advocacy.
5. Justice at the Center: Environmental justice, multispecies justice, and disability justice guide our work.
6. Sovereignty of Bodies: We seek dignity and rights for the Lake’s body and all bodies, especially queer/trans and disabled bodies, so they may thrive & flourish.
7. Humility: We acknowledge the ancient sentience and sacredness of this ecosystem. We work to honor future generations, both human and beyond-human.
8. Degrowth: We stand against techno-fascism and economic models that prioritize profit and unchecked development over the health & wellbeing of our bodies and watershed.
